What is condensate? It is the moisture in the air that is condensed as the air moves over the A/C evaporator coil. The condensed water accumulates in the drain pan and is then delivered to the exterior of the home through the condensate drain line. The condensate drain line needs to have periodic maintenance to keep the flow of water unobstructed. When the drain line becomes obstructed the flow of water is stopped which can result in property damage. There are safety devices available that can shut down the A/C unit, preventing the A/C from making additional condensate water, if the drain line becomes clogged. These devices with shut down the A/C to prevent water overflowing from the unit and alert the homeowner they need to clean the drain line.
